Your Role

Most graduates and postgraduates will start as a software engineer.

Software engineering is an exceptionally creative discipline. You will be working on projects that are revolutionising the communications industry. Sharing information at a touch of a button without disrupting your conversation via Thrutu? Answering a call to your mobile on your laptop while sitting in Starbucks? Getting a Facebook or MSN pop-up to let you know a family member is calling you at home? Reading your voicemails transcribed to text? These services were unknown just a few years ago - but we enable their delivery to millions of people.

We are living in a world where people expect more and more from their communications products and services. Inspired software engineering affects how services perform and it enables service providers to keep up with demand.

Working with some of the smartest engineers around, you’ll develop flexible and scalable software architectures - the enduring structures that make complex services possible within and between communications networks. You’ll use your analytical skills to reduce a problem to its individual parts and then work out how to turn that into reality. Your creative instincts will help you to design a solution that is both elegant and efficient.

Every project will involve new and exciting challenges. You’ll have clear ownership of the aspects that you are responsible for and will very soon be making key decisions that affect our products. As you become more experienced, you will increasingly have the opportunity to lead projects, people and teams as your career flourishes within Metaswitch.

Not sure if software engineering is for you? If you enjoy solving complex problems then it just might be. Have a go at these brain teasers. Right or wrong, the important thing is that you relish having a go!
